We’ve been busier than usual here at Plastic Mobile (is that even possible?), with a whirlwind of events and releases. In the past few months,we have published the results of our highly anticipated Mobile Wealth Study in partnership with New York based Luxury Institute, participated in the Mobile Shopping Summit in San Diego, released the Forrester Research Pizza Pizza case study and headed back to Toronto to attend eTail Canada – we’re glad our media pals have been able to keep up!
Our Mobile Wealth Study has been particularly popular, catching the attention of both bloggers and major national publications. When we partnered with Luxury Institute to learn more about how wealthy consumers are using their mobile devices and luxury brand applications, we had no idea the results would ignite such widespread conversation. Check out what people are saying below.

Thirty-seven years ago today, Microsoft was founded by one of the greatest tech minds of our generation – and he’s a knight!
In 1975, (Sir) Bill Gates and Paul Allen jumped at the chance to transform a very early PC technology into the most popular home computer operating system of the mid-1980s. It was followed by the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems, which remains one of the worlds most popular operating systems. Not to mention Microsoft Office, which most of us use every day in some shape or form.
In other Bagel Wedensday News, someone in the world loses their mobile phone every three minutes. Also, It takes 26 hours for the average person to report a lost wallet. It takes 68 minutes for them to report a lost phone. (Source: Unisys).
Have you ever lost your phone? Tweet us @plasticmobile and let us know when, where and if you got it back!
Every Wednesday the team here at Plastic Mobile gets together in our think tank to munch on yummy bagels and share the latest mobile gossip. This week we changed it up a bit and dined on pancakes in honour of Shrove Tuesday. One thing stayed the same, though; we had a lot of mobile news to talk about with our mouthes full.
This week, the hot topic was the TELUS Nokia’s Lumia 800, which is scheduled to launch in a couple of weeks – speculation suggest as soon as March 5th!
Why all the hype? Well, aside from the fact that it has been”‘coming soon” since it was announced back at the beginning of the year, the Nokia Lumia 800 will be only the second Windows phone in Canada. It also promises to be a considerable step up from the 710 available at Rogers, with faster browsing, a powerful processor, HTML 5 and Internet Explorer 9.
Sadly, that’s all we know for now, but our Plastic Mobile team is keeping our ears to the ground, so we’ll post an update if we hear anything else. Stay tuned!
Last week was really exciting for all of us here at Plastic Mobile. We were really pleased with the launch of our latest mobile application innovation, ETF Central , created in partnership with Claymore Investments, a subsidiary of Guggenheim Funds Services Group, Inc.
Apparently our enthusiasm was mirrored by our media buds, as ETF Central got a lot of love from the press. Check out what the likes of the Financial Post and Mobile Marketing, among others, had to say about ETF Central:
Plastic Mobile in the News:
Today was a big day at Plastic. The Marketing Intern brought in homemade chocolate chips cookies so we were all on a major sugar high for the launch of “ETF Central,” our latest app that was created in partnership with Claymore Investments, a subsidiary of Guggenheim Funds Services Group, Inc.
Because a part of our mandate is to pioneer innovative products and solutions that allow the financial industry to expand into the mobile space, we wanted to be sure that ETF (Exchange-traded Funds) Central met all of the user needs, in an engaging and easy-to-use format.
So, employing both tech and creative wizardry (our magical formula for super apps) we created a sophisticated tool that sets the bar for excellence in the financial space. Voila! ETF Central. A new, free, customized, dual-purpose mobile app available on BlackBerry, PlayBook, iPhone and iPad.
ETF Central satisfies both the need to better educate users unfamiliar with the relatively new exchange-traded funds, as well as allows them to manage their ETF investments easily and conveniently. The app puts all Canadian-listed ETFs into the user’s palm, allowing them to view market prices of all TSX listed ETFs, create and track their ETF portfolio, view ETF educational resources, link to all online brokerages to trade ETFs, track upcoming ETF events and more. Ultimately, it’s a pretty outstanding financial gadget.
The leading force behind the app creation, and our very own “Queen of Apps,” Melody Adhami was excited to launch ETF Central as ETFs represent a sizable industry, but public awareness about them has been limited. She and our team here at Plastic Mobile set out to create a tool that would both educate and manage ETFs for the average user/investor. To read the full media release, click here.
